Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are files that can be downloaded onto your device through websites. They are tools that play an essential role in the provision of numerous information society services. Among other things, they enable a website to store and retrieve information about a user's browsing habits or their device and, depending on the information obtained, they may be used to recognise the user and improve the service provided.

Types of cookies

Depending on the entity that manages the domain from which the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, two types can be distinguished:

  • First-party cookies: those that are sent to the user's terminal equipment from a device or domain managed by the publisher itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
  • Third-party cookies: those that are sent to the user's terminal equipment from a device or domain that is not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.

Where cookies are installed from a device or domain managed by the publisher itself but the information collected through them is managed by a third party, they cannot be considered first-party cookies. There is also a second classification according to the length of time they remain stored in the user's browser, which may be:

  • Session cookies: designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website. They are generally used to store information that only needs to be retained for the provision of the service requested by the user on a single occasion (e.g. a list of products purchased).
  • Persistent cookies: the data remains stored on the terminal and may be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which may range from a few minutes to several years.

Finally, there is another classification comprising five types of cookies according to the purpose for which the data obtained is processed:

  • Technical cookies: those that enable the user to browse a website, platform or application and use the different options or services available on it, such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted areas, remembering the items included in an order, carrying out the purchase process for an order, submitting a registration or participation request for an event, using security features while browsing, storing content for the broadcasting of videos or audio, or sharing content through social networks.
  • Personalisation cookies: these enable the user to access the service with certain predefined general characteristics based on a series of criteria on the user's terminal, such as language, the type of browser used to access the service, the regional settings from which the service is accessed, etc.
  • Analytics cookies: these enable the party responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms and to create browsing profiles of users of such websites, applications and platforms, with the aim of making improvements based on an analysis of how users use the service.
  • Advertising cookies: these enable advertising spaces to be managed as effectively as possible.
  • Behavioural advertising cookies: these store information about users' behaviour obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, enabling a specific profile to be created in order to display advertising based on that profile.
  • External social media cookies: these are used so that visitors can interact with content from different social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, etc.) and are generated solely for users of those social networks. The conditions governing the use of these cookies and the information collected are regulated by the privacy policy of the relevant social media platform.
