SHAKY

SHAKY – Use of residual cold from LNG to develop an ultra-low-temperature storage facility and manage the cold chain using fuel cells.

  • Funding body: CDTI
  • Call: ERDF Interconnect Programme
  • Partners: Enagás Transporte (coordinator), Unifood Alimentaria and Ariema.
  • Duration: 30 months (October 2018 – March 2021).
  • Total budget: €2,028,927.

The SHAKY project aims to harness residual cold from LNG produced at the Huelva regasification plant for the refrigeration of goods and the production of water, ice and hydrogen.

In this project, Ariema investigates how surplus cold from LNG can be used to produce hydrogen through electrolysis, using a prototype Rankine cycle.
